Prathamesh Jawkar, a gold medallist with the Indian men’s compound archery team at the Asian Games 2023, has been found in violation of the International Testing Agency (ITA)’s anti-doping rule, relating to whereabouts failures.
The 22-year-old Indian archer, part of the Registered Testing Pool (RTP), admittedly missed the required filing deadline on three separate occasions last year.
The ITA has formally notified Jawkar and requested a response.
All athletes in the RTP are mandated to file their whereabouts information every quarter of the year. This includes details of their accommodation, training, work, competition schedule and other relevant information.
These athletes also need to provide a time slot for testing.
“It is unfortunate but it is a fault from my side nonetheless,” Prathamesh told the Tribune.
At the Asia Cup archery tournament in Bangkok, last month, Prathamesh Jawkar won a silver medal in the men’s individual compound event.
“I was so engrossed in my training that I failed to notice. I hope other archers who are part of the probables for the Asian Games and other major tournaments take my case as an example and not repeat the same mistake,” he added.
The International Testing Agency is expected to announce the duration and start date of the ban after receiving Jawkar’s official reply on Monday.
