Bali, Indonesia – UNESCO brought its UNESCO Campus programme to the Asia-Pacific region for the first time, joining more than 1,000 students from over 100 schools and 40 nationalities at the ReGeneration26, a youth-led global gathering organized by Green School Bali on 16–17 April 2026.
Held under the theme “From Awareness to Action: Youth Leading Climate Solutions,” the UNESCO Campus featured two sessions – one in English and one in Bahasa Indonesia –creating space for students to engage directly with practitioners working on environmental and sustainability issues. Across two days, participants joined interactive discussions, talks and exchanges that connected global challenges with real-world experiences.
The English session on 16 April brought together a diverse group of speakers, including climate advocate Clover Hogan, representatives from community-based initiatives, educators, and creative professionals. Conversations explored how different fields—from environmental action to storytelling and even culinary practice—can contribute to addressing climate change, prompting strong interest from students.
The Bahasa Indonesia session on 17 April focused on local perspectives, featuring young professionals and advocates working across environmental protection, entrepreneurship and literacy. Students engaged actively in discussions, raising questions on how they can contribute to addressing environmental challenges in Indonesia and linking climate action with critical thinking and education.
Launched by UNESCO in 2014, the Campus programme brings students into direct dialogue with experts on key societal issues. Its introduction in Asia-Pacific reflects growing interest in connecting global conversations with youth communities in the region.
The collaboration with Green School Bali also highlights the potential to expand UNESCO Campus to more local learning environments, including public schools, where students can engage with these issues in ways that are relevant to their own communities.
