The men’s 800 metres at the 2026 Rabat Diamond League Meeting delivered one of the standout performances of the day, as Great Britain’s Max Burgin produced a composed and courageous run to take victory.
The 27-year-old made his move with around 300m remaining, quickly opening up a significant gap on the field and entering the home straight with a lead of roughly 15m.
Despite a late surge from Kenya’s Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the 2018 European Under-18 champion held on to win in 1:42.98.
The win is Burgin’s second-ever Diamond League meeting win, coming three years after his first victory at the London event in 2023.
World champion Wanyonyi, who opened his season in April over 1500m, returned to the 800m with a strong run to take second place in 1:43.56 in his first outing over the distance this year.
Algeria’s Slimane Moula was close behind, finishing third in 1:43.73 to complete the podium.
The 2019 world champion Donavan Brazier, clocked a season-best 1:44.03 to finish in fifth place.
