India’s badminton campaign at the Indonesia Open 2026 BWF Super 1000 tournament ended on Friday with Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun losing their men’s doubles quarter-final match to Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin.
The Indian badminton players, 30th in doubles rankings, lost 21-12, 21-10 to the world No. 8 pair of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin in 32 minutes at Jakarta.
In the opening game, the seventh-seeded Malaysians raced to a four-point lead at the break before Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun cut the deficit down to just one point at 11-10 following the restart.
However, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, who won the Indonesia Masters Super 500 earlier this year, upped a couple of gears and went on to pocket the opening game fairly easily.
The second game was a one-sided affair from start to end as the Malaysians cruised through in straight games. This was the first meeting between the two teams on the BWF stage.
The defeat marked the end of an inspired run by the Indian pair in the BWF Super 1000 tournament.
Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun had opened their campaign with an impressive victory over Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong, a Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist, and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub.
They then upset another better-ranked Malaysian team in Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing to make the quarters.
India’s campaign in singles had ended on Thursday with PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty losing their respective second-round matches. Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy had bowed out in the first round.
India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who won the Singapore Open last week, were forced to retire midway through their men’s doubles opening-round match on Wednesday after Satwik injured his right shoulder.
Indian shuttlers will be in action next at the Australian Badminton Open BWF Super 500 tournament which starts next week.
