India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand battled their way into the women’s doubles second round at the US Open 2026 badminton tournament on Tuesday.
Commonwealth Games medallist Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, 58th in the women’s doubles badminton rankings, beat Spain’s Paula López and Lucía Rodríguez 21-12, 14-21, 21-13 in their opening match at the Titan Gym in California.
After taking the opening game, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were pushed into a decider after losing the second. However, the Indian badminton players responded strongly in the third game to seal victory and advance to the pre-quarterfinals.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand had returned to action at the Indonesia Open earlier this month after the former’s three-month-long rehabilitation from an injury.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are India’s only challenge in the women’s doubles draw at the BWF Super 300 meet.

The badminton pair had skipped the two tournaments after the Indonesia Open but are competing at the US Open and will face Japan’s Sumire Nakade-Miyu Takahashi in the second round.
Meanwhile, qualifier Rounak Chouhan made the main draw in the men’s singles after beating France’s Enogat Roy 21-19, 21-16 and Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Kuan-lin 13-21, 21-14, 21-10.
Rounak Chouhan had also progressed to the men’s singles main draw through the qualifiers at last week’s Macau Open before advancing all the way to the quarter-finals.
India’s Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and Anmol Kharb are scheduled to begin their US Open campaign on Wednesday.
Ayush Shetty, who won the US Open men’s singles title last year, will not be defending his crown this year.
