LA PAZ, August 3, 2026 – The World Bank Group announced the appointment of Carine Clert as its new Resident Representative in Bolivia, succeeding Camille Nuamah. A French national with more than 25 years of international development experience, Clert brings a career spanning Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and will lead the institution’s support program to the public and private sectors.
The new Representative takes office amid renewed prospects for Bolivia. The country’s active portfolio comprises seven investment operations totaling approximately US$1.2 billion in areas such as social protection, transport, agriculture, urban development, energy, and water resources. This is complemented by US$14 million in grant funding directed at initiatives in gender, environment, and employment, as well as the preparation of new operations in sectors including transport corridors and logistics, natural gas, renewable energy, and value-chain agriculture. In parallel, the World Bank Group’s advisory and analytical services address macroeconomic issues, poverty and equity, governance, and private sector support, with initiatives from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
From 2022 until her arrival in Bolivia, Clert coordinated World Bank programs in El Salvador and Costa Rica, where she oversaw more than US$3.6 billion in financing and led operations across infrastructure and energy, agriculture, tourism, housing, public-private partnerships, and access to finance for MSMEs, working alongside IFC teams. Previously, she held leadership positions in the Global Practices for Social Protection and Jobs and Human Development.
