East Bengal drew level with Mohun Bagan Super Giant as the joint-most successful team in Durand Cup history, winning their 17th title to go level with the Mariners after a commanding 4-1 victory in Kolkata on Sunday.

East Bengal’s Bipin Singh (10’) opened the scoring before Edmund Lalrindika (11’, 22’, 44’) netted a hat-trick in a stunning first-half display to end the club’s 22-year-wait for a Durand Cup title.

Manvir Singh (33’) scored Mohun Bagan’s only goal in the match, held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, to briefly reduce the deficit.

Winger Bipin Singh broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom-right corner after Mohammed Rashid’s through ball inside the box.

Just two minutes later, Edmund Lalrindika doubled East Bengal’s advantage with a low effort from outside the box.

Edmund struck again in the 22nd minute, taking a touch past the advancing Vishal Kaith before rolling the ball into an empty net.

Mohun Bagan pulled one back in the 33rd minute through Manvir Singh. Played through on the right, Manvir cut inside before firing into the net.

East Bengal restored their three-goal cushion just before the break, with Edmund Lalrindika completing his hat-trick in the 44th minute to give the Red and Gold Brigade a 4-1 lead at half-time.

The Red and Gold Brigade maintained their control after the restart and stood firm defensively to see out a comfortable victory.

The triumph also gave head coach Antonio Habas, who led Mohun Bagan to the ISL 2023-24 League Shield, his first piece of silverware with East Bengal.

This was the second Kolkata Derby of the Durand Cup 2026 season, with the tournament also opening with a clash between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, which the Mariners won 1-0.

The Red and Gold Brigade are the reigning Indian Super League champions and recently secured a place in the AFC Champions League Two 2026-27 main stage after also beating Kuwait’s Al Arabi SC 4-1 in the preliminary round.
