SAN SALVADOR, September 1, 2026 – Diletta Doretti assumes today the role of World Bank Group Country Manager for El Salvador, unifying the institution’s leadership in the country to better support public and private sector priorities, promote job creation, and expand economic opportunities.
As Country Manager, Doretti will lead the representation of the World Bank Group’s principal institutions in El Salvador: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). In this capacity, she will advance a more integrated approach to mobilizing financing, knowledge, and private investment.

The World Bank Group supports El Salvador through a combination of public and private sector solutions. The World Bank’s active public sector portfolio amounts to US$2.4 billion and focuses on promoting economic growth and job creation through investments in education, health, transportation infrastructure, water, energy, and local economic development. IFC’s committed portfolio in the country, supporting private sector development, stands at approximately US$400 million.
Most recently, Doretti served as World Bank Group Representative for Guyana and Suriname. Since joining the institution in 2002, she has held a range of positions, including Senior Private Sector Development Specialist for the West Africa region, based in Mali.
An Italian national, Doretti holds a master’s degree in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Law from the University of Florence.
