Australia men and women have obtained quotas for LA 2028 at the 2026 AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Championships in Shangluo, People’s Republic of China.
In the men’s final, the Aussies Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher came from behind to defeat compatriots Thomas Hodges/Ben Hood 2-1 (14-21, 24-22, 15-11).
With the winning nation obtaining a quota* for the LA28 Olympic Games, the All-Australian final meant the National Olympic Committee had secured the quota before the game began.
Later on Sunday, Australia’s women obtained their own quota, as Stefanie Fejes and Taliqua Clancy defeated Yan Xu/Xia Xinyi from China 2-0 (23-21, 21-16) in the final.
Australia women’s victory in the continental championship was the nation’s sixth, with Clancy on the winning side on each occasion. Her last title came seven years ago in Maoming.
She also has an Olympic medal to her name, having won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
*As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes’ participation at the Los Angeles Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Los Angeles 2028.
