Tunisia are the kings of African volleyball once more.
Playing on home soil at El Menzah Hall in Tunis, the 11-time continental champions claimed their 12th title at the 2026 Men’s African Volleyball Championship on Friday (25 September), securing a quota place at the LA28 Olympic Games.
Facing Cameroon in a hotly anticipated final, the team remained composed under the weight of national expectations, with Oussama Ben Romdhane and Ali Bongui combining for 30 points to usher in a shut-out victory (25–22, 25–18, 25–19). The Tunisians had beaten Morocco (3–1) in the semi-finals and Rwanda (3–0) in the quarter-finals to reach this point.
Having failed to make the final three years ago in Cairo, this particular victory felt uniquely savoury in front of the team’s supporters, with Khaled Ben Slimene and Ahmed Kadhi acting as the bedrock of the squad, having previously competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Returning to the Olympic stage after missing out on Paris 2024; it will be the African nation’s eighth appearance overall. The team’s best performance to date came in the City of Angels, however, when Tunisia finished ninth at the LA84 Olympic Games.Â
Building on the momentum of their latest triumph, they’ll look to surpass that benchmark and make it deep into elimination stage at LA28.
