The Indian cricket team beat the West Indies by 14 runs in the third game of the five-match IND vs WI T20I 2026 series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday to regain its lead.
Having won the opening match in Lucknow, world No. 2 India now lead 2-1 and are one win away from clinching the series.
Riding on a 30-ball 69 from opener Abhishek Sharma, India, the reigning T20 world champions, posted 223/10 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets to help restrict the visitors to 209/7 in their allotted overs.
Put in to bat, India reached 87/1 in the powerplay despite Sanju Samson falling cheaply after being caught at short midwicket for three as early as the second over.
Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan responded with a blistering 108-run second-wicket stand.
Abhishek brought up his fifty off just 18 balls and became the fastest batter to 2000 T20I runs by balls faced, taking 1024 deliveries to reach the milestone – surpassing the previous mark of 1164 balls set by former Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Roston Chase, however, brought West Indies back in the game, having Kishan stumped after a breezy 37 before trapping opposition skipper Shreyas Iyer LBW in the ninth over.
Abhishek Sharma’s innings, too, came to an end in the next over and Naman Dhir departed in the 11th, with India suddenly going from 115/1 to 135/5.
Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in with 21 and Tilak Varma made 28 to steady the ship but India’s innings was derailed by two run-outs in the closing overs. Tilak and Axar Patel (20) were both undone by mix-ups.
Prince Yadav provided some late impetus with an unbeaten 13 off six and Arshdeep Singh added 11 as India posted 223.
Roston Chase, Shamar Joseph and Shamar Springer each finished with two wickets for West Indies.
Chasing 224 to win, West Indies lost their in-form skipper Shai Hope in the second over with Arshdeep Singh knocking his stumps over.
Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer frustrated Indian bowlers for a while, piling on a 60-run stand before Naman Dhir struck to get rid of the dangerous Hetmyer after a 26-ball 43.
Axar Patel ensured Rovman Powell’s stay on the crease lasted just seven balls and cost five runs before Naman struck again, denying Pooran a fifty.
The three wickets knocked the win out for the Windies chase but Sherfane Rutherford tried to keep it alive with a fighting 20-ball-32 before Arshdeep knocked him over.
Springer launched a late assault and finished unbeaten on 35 off 11 balls – 22 of which came in Axar Patel’s final over. However, it was a tad too late as the visitors fell 14 runs short of the target.
India and the West Indies will face off again in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
