Reigning world artistic gymnastics all-around champion Hashimoto Daiki and reigning Olympic all-around gold medallist Oka Shinnosuke led Japan to the top of the leaderboard during men’s team qualifying at the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam. Their 254.529 total is the best of the eight teams that advanced into Tuesday’s (20 October) final.
In addition to world medals, the top three teams in the final will obtain quota spots for the LA28 Olympic Games.
Great Britain were second on 251.460, with World Gymnastics 2 third (249.162) and China fourth (247.493). Team USA qualified fifth, and Switzerland, the Netherlands and Colombia rounded out the top eight.
The Japanese squad looked the part of pre-event favourites during the qualifying round Saturday (17 October). Their highlight came in the form of a spectacular turn on the parallel bars where they earned a 44.466 total, the top team score on any event in qualification.
Shinnosuke leads the all-around qualifiers on 85.098, with Hashimoto second on 84.632. Arsenii Dukhno rounds out the top three at 83.866.
The People’s Republic of China competed Sunday (18 October), coming through on the strength of two-time Olympic parallel bars champion Zou Jingyuan, who competed three events in Rotterdam.
“The younger ones have a lot of aspirations,” Zou said. “I have a bit more experience, but every experience is different. The only thing that stays the same is giving it everything.”
