India were confirmed as the host for the Asian Relays 2027 and the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2028 on Wednesday.
The bids were approved by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) during its executive council meeting in Hong Kong China, ahead of the Asian Under-20 Championships scheduled from May 28 to 31.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had submitted bids for both events last year.
Chandigarh will be the host city for the third edition of the Asian Relay Championships.
The inaugural edition of the continental meet was held in Bangkok in 2024, where India’s mixed team set a then-national record to secure gold while the men’s and women’s 4x400m teams followed up with silver medals.
The second edition of the track and field meet is scheduled in Shaoxing, People’s Republic of China, from June 20 to 21 this year.
Chandigarh hosted the Indian Open Race Walking Competition and the National Open Relay Competition earlier this year. However, the Asian Relay Championships 2027 will be one of the biggest competitions to be held in the city in recent times.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar will host the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2028 at the Kalinga Stadium.
The same venue is also set to stage the World Indoor Championships 2028 from March 3 to 5.
Earlier this year, the inaugural National Open Indoor Athletics Championships were also organised at the Kalinga Stadium indoor facility, which saw Gurindervir Singh shatter the men’s 60m national record in 6.60 seconds.
The dates for the Asian Relays 2027 and the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2028 will be revealed later.
