Who are Australia’s stars to watch at the 2026 FIFA World Cup?
There is much excitement Down Under about 20-year-old forward Nestory Irankunda, who joined Watford from Bayern Munich last summer.
He made his senior debut against Bangladesh in June 2024, before netting in his next match against Palestine to become the second-youngest player to score for Australia at the age of 18. Irankunda now has five goals from 13 caps.
Jackson Irvine, of Bundesliga outfit FC St. Pauli, is a key man at the heart of Australia’s midfield. Another player plying his trade in one of Europe’s top leagues is Alessandro Circati, a 22-year-old centre-back with Parma in Serie A.
Goalkeeper and captain Mathew Ryan, 34, also plays for Levante in La Liga and brings a wealth of experience to the Socceroos.
As an ever-present at Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, the former Premier League stopper has already registered 10 World Cup appearances, a joint national record.
