India’s Dhiraj Bommadevara won the men’s individual recurve gold medal and partnered with 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod to the mixed team title at the Archery World Cup 2026 Stage 3 in Antalya, Turkiye, on Sunday.
Dhiraj Bommadevara stunned the Republic of Korea’s Lee Woo-seok, an Olympic bronze medallist, 7-3 in the men’s individual final to claim the top spot.
In the semi-finals, the Indian archer recovered from a 3-1 deficit to beat Germany’s Moritz Wieser 6-4 in a thriller.
It was Dhiraj’s first-ever individual gold medal at the Archery World Cup and fourth overall. The earlier three were bronze.
In fact, it was India’s first men’s individual recurve gold medal at the Archery World Cup since Atanu Das’ triumph back in 2021.
Jayanta Talukdar is the only other Indian man to have topped the podium in an individual recurve archery event at an Archery World Cup stage.
Earlier in the day, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod, seeded third, beat the South Korean top-seeded team of Oh Yejin and Kim Je-deok 5-1 in the final to win the recurve mixed team gold.
Kim Je Deok is one half of the mixed team recurve gold medal-winning team from Tokyo 2020 and has also been part of the champion South Korean men’s teams at both the Tokyo and Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 22-year-old Oh Yejin, meanwhile, is a former youth world champion.
Courtesy the win, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod became only the third Indian mixed recurve team to stand atop the podium at a World Cup stage.
Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das were the first back in 2021 at Paris while Olympian Tarundeep Rai and Ridhi, also 17 at the time, followed suit in Antalya in 2022.
For Kumkum Mohod, it was also her second straight World Cup gold medal.
The teenager was also part of the Indian women’s recurve archery team, also comprising Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat, which clinched gold at the second stage in Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China.
At Antalya, the Indian women’s recurve team of Kirti, Ankita Bhakat and Kumkum were ousted in the quarter-finals after losing to hosts Turkiye. The men’s team fell in the second round to the USA.
In the women’s individual, Deepika Kumari progressed the furthest amongst the Indians, making it to the pre-quarterfinals.
India’s compound archers, however, drew a blank in Antalya as India finished with two medals.
The Indian compound men’s team of Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru stopped one win short of a podium finish.
After going down to eventual champions China in the semi-finals, they narrowly lost the bronze medal match 233-232 to Mexico.
The women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep bowed out in the second round while Jyothi and Sahil’s campaign ended in the quarter-finals of the mixed event.
In the men’s individual event, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh exited in the third round, while Jyothi Vennam and Parneet Kaur suffered the same fate in the women’s individual competition.
The Antalya meet was the penultimate stop in the four-stage Archery World Cup 2026 circuit, with Madrid scheduled to host the final leg in July.
The first leg at Puebla, Mexico, saw Madhura Dhamangaonkar, Pragati and Jyothi Surekha Vennam win the women’s compound gold medal for India’s only podium finish.
Indian archers had secured two medals at the second Archery World Cup leg in Shanghai with the women’s recurve team winning gold and Sahil Jadhav bagging the individual bronze in men’s compound.
