Serena Williams‘ comeback just got a singles chapter.
The four-time Olympic tennis gold medallist has accepted a wild card into the Wimbledon 2026 women’s singles draw, the tournament announced Sunday (21 June), taking the eighth and final place the All England Club had left open on the women’s side. The grass-court grand slam begins on 29 June.
It hands the 44-year-old a singles return at a major for the first time since she lost in the third round of the 2022 US Open.
Her comeback thus far had run through the doubles court.
Williams played her first match in four years at Queen’s Club earlier this month alongside Canadian Victoria Mboko, winning the opener before the pair withdrew when Mboko picked up a knee injury. She, then, partnered Karolína Muchová in Berlin and lost in the first round.
She and her sister Venus Williams already held a doubles wild card for Wimbledon, their first pairing at the All England Club in a decade. Together, they’ve won six titles at the London major.
Williams has won the Wimbledon singles title seven times, the last in 2016, and 23 Grand Slam singles titles overall.
