The Indian women’s 4x100m team won the gold medal on the final day of the Asian Relays Championships 2026 in Shangyu, the People’s Republic of China, on Sunday.
Olympian Srabani Nanda, Sneha Shanuvalli, Sudeshna Shivankar and Tamanna clocked a season’s best time of 43.85 seconds to secure the top spot in the women’s 4x100m relay final.
China won the silver medal after clocking 44.09s, while Thailand took the bronze with 44.11s.
Tamanna and Sneha Shanuvalli finished the 2026 Asian Relays with two medals each, having helped India clinch bronze in the mixed 4x100m event alongside men’s 200m national record holder Animesh Kujur and Pranav Gurav on Saturday.
However, India’s men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams were unable to recreate their podium successes from the inaugural Asian Relays Championships from two years back, finishing outside the medal positions this time.
Both units had bagged silver medals in Bangkok back in 2024.
In the women’s 4x400m event, the Indian quartet of MR Poovamma, Rashdeep Kaur, Ansa Babu and Saloni Nagar finished fourth with a season’s best time of 3:47.22s.
Vietnam won gold after clocking 3:31.16s, while China and Kazakhstan secured silver and bronze with 3:32.68s and 3:33.88s, respectively.
Meanwhile, India’s men’s 4x400m team of Theerthesh P Shetty, Avinash Kumar, Suraj Alagar Raja and Barath Sridhar finished fifth after clocking 3:05.33s.
Vietnam finished on top of the podium with 3:02.60s, while China and Sri Lanka were second and third with 3:03.23s and 3:03.33s, respectively.
The 4x100m women’s medal on the final day took India’s overall tally to three – one gold, one silver and a bronze.
Both Indian mixed relay teams had tasted success on the opening day with the 4x400m squad bagging silver and the 4x100m quartet picking up a bronze.
India opted not to field a men’s 4x100m team for the athletics meet in China on account of injuries to key runners.
The 2026 edition of the Asian Relays Championships served as an important international test for Indian athletes ahead of a busy season featuring the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
India will host the Asian Relays Championships 2027 – the third edition of the athletics meet – in Chandigarh next year.
