India’s challenge stayed alive in doubles with the top seeds Sriram Balaji and Austria’s Neil Oberleitner progressing to the semi-finals of the ATP Challenger 125 tournament.
India’s singles challenge at the Bengaluru Open 2026 tennis tournament came to an end with defeats to Manas Dhamne and Dhakshineswar Suresh in the quarter-finals at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium on Thursday.
However, India’s doubles campaign stayed alive, with the top-seeded pair of Sriram Balaji and Austria’s Neil Oberleitner progressing to the semi-finals of the ATP Challenger 125 tournament.
The 18-year-old wildcard Manas Dhamne, 556th in the ATP rankings, was beaten 6-4, 7(7)-6(5) by Matteo Martineau of France.
Matteo Martineau struck with a break early in the opening set and then relied on his solid baseline game to fend off multiple break opportunities with spectacular defence.
Dhamne, playing in his first ATP Challenger quarter-final, raised his level in the second set and pushed the contest into a tie-break but Martineau’s dominance at the net proved decisive. Matteo Martineau won all 11 of his points at the net and saved the five break points he faced to close out the match in straight sets.
Later in the day, Suresh endured a difficult outing against second seed Harold Mayot of France, struggling with both form and fitness to lose 7(7)-6(5), 6-2.
The 25-year-old Suresh finished with only three aces and hit four double faults and was visibly hampered by a right leg issue.
Despite the challenges, Suresh showed resilience midway through the first set, pushing Mayot hard and forcing a tie-break, which the Frenchman won.
In the second set, Suresh was unable to sustain the intensity, allowing Mayot, while dealing with wrist issues of his own, to capitalise and secure a straight-sets win to book his place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, top seed Pedro Martinez and sixth-seeded Timofey Skatov registered straightforward victories to advance to the last four.
In the doubles, Sriram Balaji and Neil Oberleitner registered a 6-7, 6-4, 10-6 win over Petr Bar Biryukov and Grigoriy Lomakin to move into the last four.
Third seeds Arthur Reymond and Luca Sanchez defeated Adil Kalyanpur and Saketh Myneni while fourth seeds Nicolas Barrientos and Benjamin Kittay triumphed over SD Prajwal Dev and Nitin Kumar Sinha.
On Wednesday, India’s No. 1 singles player Sumit Nagal failed to capitalise on seven match points as he went down 7(7)-6(2), 1-6, 7(13)-6(11) against Harold Mayot of France.
The Bengaluru Open tennis tournament will conclude on Saturday.
