The Indian cricket team will return to T20I action for the first time since successfully defending its T20 World Cup title when they face Ireland in a two-match series in Belfast, starting on Friday.
The IRE vs IND T20 2026 matches will be available to watch on live streaming and live telecast in India. Both games will be played at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast.
The upcoming series will also mark a changing of the guard with Shreyas Iyer taking over the Indian T20 captaincy from Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped from the team after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in March.
Shreyas Iyer last played a T20I for India in December 2023 but comes with plenty of captaincy experience in the format, having led Kolkata Knight Riders to the Indian Premier League title in 2024 and then captaining Punjab Kings to the final a year later.
Tilak Varma has been named the vice-captain of the team, taking over from Axar Patel, who is also a part of the squad.
However, all eyes will be on teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been handed his maiden senior call-up and could become the youngest Indian player ever to play international cricket.
The legendary Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record, having made his Test debut in 1989 against Pakistan at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
In T20Is, the Indian record for the youngest debutant belongs to Washington Sundar, who was 18 years and 80 days old when he played against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge have also received their maiden call-ups to the Indian team.
While Prince Yadav was named in the initial squad, Suryansh Shedge joined the team as a late replacement for the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Meanwhile, the Ireland cricket team will also be led by a new skipper with former vice-captain Lorcan Tucker stepping up as the side’s full-time captain.
India head into the series as the top-ranked team in the men’s T20 rankings, while Ireland are world No. 12.

India and Ireland have squared off eight times in T20Is with the Men in Blue winning every encounter between the sides. The last time the two teams met in a T20 series was in 2023, when India won 2-0.
