The Indian hockey team earned a point before losing the shootout to England after a 2-2 draw in their FIH Pro League 2025-26 match at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London on Thursday.
Dilpreet Singh scored in the 10th and 58th minutes for India, while David Goodfield (29′) and Nicholas Bandurak (56′) found the net for England. The hosts then won the shootout 4-1 to claim the bonus point, with Thomas Sorsby, James Albery and captain Zachary Wallace converting their attempts. Harmanpreet Singh was India’s only scorer in the shootout.
In the match, India started brightly and threatened through an early penalty corner, but Harmanpreet’s drag-flick was saved by goalkeeper James Mazarelo. England also earned a penalty corner in the opening quarter before Dilpreet gave India the lead, finishing off a low cross from Mandeep Singh after a driving run along the baseline.
England drew level just before half-time when Goodfield volleyed home after the ball deflected into his path inside the circle.
The third quarter remained goalless as both sides created chances but were unable to convert.
England edged ahead in the 56th minute when Bandurak converted a penalty corner with a low drag-flick. India responded almost immediately, with Sumit setting up Dilpreet, who fired his shot through the goalkeeper’s legs to restore parity and force a shootout.
England held the upper hand in the shootout to secure the bonus point after converting four of their attempts.
The Indian hockey team remains eighth in the nine-team FIH Hockey Pro League standings with two matches remaining. India will next face Pakistan on Friday before concluding their campaign against England on Sunday.
