Two-time Olympic 400m hurdles champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and her husband, Andre Levrone, have welcomed their first child.
The couple announced the birth of their daughter, Savannah, on Sunday (12 July).
“Our blessing and our joy is finally here!” she wrote. “So grateful for everyone who supported us through the pregnancy journey. Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for our little girl!!”
The 26-year-old has previously said she plans to return to competition with the goal of competing at a fourth Olympic Games at LA 2028.
McLaughlin-Levrone, the world record holder in the 400m hurdles, last competed in a major individual championship race in the 400m at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where she won gold in 47.78 seconds, the second-fastest time in history.
Congratulations quickly poured in from fellow athletes and Olympians.
“The sweetest blessing!” wrote seven-time Olympic champion Allyson Felix.
“Congratulations Mom and Dad!” added retired Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
“Congrats!” wrote the USA’s bobsleigh Olympic champion Elana Meyers Taylor, a mother of two who won gold at Milano Cortina 2026.
McLaughlin-Levrone is not the only athletics star celebrating a new arrival.
Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet recently announced the birth of her first child, a son, with husband and athletics coach Peter Bii.
“Tiny hands, tiny feet, and a love so big! A beautiful new chapter begins. Welcome to our world, our sweet little baby boy,” said Chebet.
The reigning Olympic 5,000m and 10,000m champion, who also holds the world records in both events, welcomed her son on 11 June.
Chebet hopes to return to elite competition next year as she looks to defend her distance titles at the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing and build towards LA 2028.
