Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah and Rouqaia Othman of Egypt won the men’s and women’s titles, respectively, at the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour 2026 in Chennai on Wednesday.
In the men’s singles final, top seed Joachim Chuah defeated Egypt’s Adham Roshdy 3-0 (12-10, 11-7, 11-8) to clinch the title.
Joachim Chuah opened his campaign with a bye before a straight-game victory over Egypt’s Youssef Teleb in the second round.
He then blanked India’s Om Semwal in straight games before rallying from two games down to produce a comeback win over third seed Mohammad Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia in the semi-finals.
Mohammad Syafiq Kamal won the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour 2026 men’s event in Mumbai earlier this month.
Suraj Kumar Chand, the winner of the Chennai HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour 2026 in April, and Semwal, with quarter-final exits, had the deepest runs in the men’s event among the Indian squash players.
Suraj Kumar Chand is a part of the Indian squash team for the Asian Games to be held later this year.
Meanwhile, top seed Rouqaia Othman fought back from the brink to clinch the women’s title 3-2 (11-6, 10-12, 19-21, 11-7, 11-8) against sixth-seeded Hwayeong Eum of the Republic of Korea.
After receiving a bye in the opening round, Rouqaia Othman beat South Korea’s Chaewon Song and India’s Pooja Arthi Raghu to enter the semi-finals.
The Egyptian then cruised past fourth seed Sanya Vats, the lone Indian in the women’s semi-finals in Chennai, 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-5) to make the final.
This was Rouqaia Othman’s second title triumph in Chennai this year, having also won the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour event in April.
Squash is set to make its Olympic debut at LA 2028.
