Alan Rice is counting the months.
At 98, the 1956 Olympic American wrestler has LA28 shirts on standby, a series of Olympic-themed puzzles to complete, and is checking in with the wrestlers he once coached.
His niece, Anne Rice, has a word for him. Superfan. He’s not far from having another word for him. Centenarian.
Rice was born on 2 June 1928. He is set to turn 100 a month before the Olympic Games LA28 open on home soil.
“It brings Alan great patriotic pride knowing that he will be a fully-minted centenarian just a month before the Games in 2028,” said Anne Rice, who relayed his answers in writing to Olympics.com. “That they will take place in the U.S. is simply icing on top.”
With just less than two years to go until the Games return to the United States, Rice has a message for the athletes who will fill the arenas in Los Angeles.
“Be prepared to meet the best in the world,” he said.
