Zhu Xuanchen claimed his first World Tour title at the 2026 BWF Korea Masters on Sunday (9 August).
The 22-year-old shuttler from the People’s Republic of China came through straight games against fellow unseeded player Yoo Taebin of the Republic of Korea, winning 21-16, 23-21 in the men’s singles final.
Zhu, the badminton world No. 68, claimed his first BWF World Tour title with his triumph at the Super 300 tournament in Asan.
“I came here with the goal of winning the title, but once I started playing, I just focused on fighting for every point,” Zhu said via the BWF.
“The same was true today – I wasn’t really thinking too much about the result. In the end, all the hard work we put in during training paid off, and I’m really satisfied to be able to win the title.”
The women’s singles tournament was won by India’s Ashmita Chaliha, who came from behind for the first tour title of her career. Chaliha upset Chinese fourth seed Han Qianxi with a spirited comeback to win 14-21, 21-14, 21-14.
“I feel really great and [it’s] unbelievable,” the 26-year-old said. “I’m trying to digest it. I feel blessed – thank you to everyone for supporting me back home. I’m hungry for more.”
Chaliha is a two-time South Asian Games champion and adds the Korea Masters trophy to her career achievements. She also beat the top seed, Akechi Hina, on her way to the title.
