As if the promise of warm weather – and perhaps – a slight breeze wasn’t enough, the allure of energetic crowds should be all that’s needed to bring the world’s top athletics stars together at the Silesian Stadium, also known as the “Witches’ Cauldron”, for the third-to-last stop of the 2026 Diamond League season.
It is there that the best of the best when it comes to sprinting, endurance, throwing and jumping will gather for the highly anticipated 2026 Silesia Diamond League meet from 22-23 August, known locally as the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial – in honour of the Olympic hammer throw champion who died during a training session aged 26 in 2009.
Fans will be treated to two rounds of the men’s 100 metres, featuring the likes of reigning world champion Oblique Seville, European champion Romell Glave, Commonwealth champion Emmanuel Eseme and North American stars Kenneth Bednarek and Andre de Grasse.
But that might just be the appetiser for an equally stacked women’s 100m start list, which includes reigning Olympic champion Julien Alfred, reigning world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Commonwealth champion Zoe Hobbs, Jamaican star Shericka Jackson and perennial favourite Sha’Carri Richardson.
Either way, it’s safe to expect fireworks as the world’s fastest humans go head-to-head at one of the continent’s top venues, with bragging rights, ranking points and pride all on the line ahead of the season finale and 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championships in September.
Silesia Diamond League 2026: Athletes to watch
If the appeal of watching the world’s fastest sprinters go head-to-head wasn’t enough to convince you now is the time to get invested in the Diamond League – in case you already haven’t – there’s plenty more reasons to do so in Silesia.
Take the men’s 400m hurdles, which will pit the current World No. 1 Alison Dos Santos of Brazil against four-time reigning European champion Karsten Warholm of Norway, Commonwealth champion Ezekiel Nathaniel of Nigeria and Qatari star Abderrahman Samba.
Dos Santos enters the meet with the fastest season’s best at 46.48 seconds, but his margin or error will be incredibly thin with Warholm sitting on 46.61 and Nathaniel hoping to improve on 47.37 from USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in June.
Likewise, the women’s 400m is shaping up to be a compelling contest between Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, Norwegian European champion Henriette Jæger and Polish hope Natalia Bukowiecka.
Paulino returns to the Diamond League after a successful side-quest at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, where she won gold on home soil in Games record of 48.94, with Jæger growing in confidence after claiming the European title in a national record of 49.04.
Rai Benjamin, gold medallist in the men’s 400m hurdles at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, is set to showcase is top-end speed when there are no obstacles in his path, entering the men’s 400m where he’ll face Motswana world leader Busang Collen Kebinatshipi.
Kebinatshipi (43.44) and the United States’ Jacory Patterson (43.96) are the only men on the start list to have broken the 44-second barrier this season, but Benjamin will savour the chance to prove he’s much more than a one-trick pony on the track.
Elsewhere, Australia’s Jessica Hull and Team USA’s Nikki Hiltz will go head-to-head in the women’s 1500m, with Polish European Championships runner-up Klaudia Kazimierska hoping to play spoiler in front of the home crowd.
Norwegian European champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will look to build on his recent victory and take down reigning Olympic champion Cole Hocker in the men’s 1500m, with Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali headlining the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
Slovenia’s Kristjan Cěh, Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna and Germany’s Henrik Janssen will meet in an encore of the men’s dicus final from the 2026 European Athletics Championships, while Dominica’s Olympic champion Thea LaFond will aim to impress in the women’s triple jump.
