Commodity prices rose in August—Pink Sheet

The energy price index increased by 8.8% in August, driven by natural gas (+10.1%) and crude oil (+5.7%), according to the World Bank’s Pink Sheet. The non-energy index increased by 2.3%.

Agricultural prices were up 1.7% in August, with food rising 1.4%, beverages 2.0%, and raw materials 2.2%. Fertilizer prices eased 1.9%.

Metals gained 4.0% in August, led by zinc (+7.7%) and copper (+5.8%). Precious metals surged 8.8%, driven by silver (+11.2%) and platinum (+9.7%).
