Malaysia will have Olympic medallists and world champions among its delegation to the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, with the Games’ Opening Ceremony scheduled on 19 September.
Track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang and diver Pandelela Pamg will bring their experience – including four Olympic medals between them – while others to watch in the Malaysian team include its stars in new Olympic sports such as squash, where Sivasangari Subramaniam will be a medal contender in Aichi-Nagoya.

Malaysian stars to watch – When Azizul, Pearly/Thinaah, and others will be in action
Azizulhasni Awang
Malaysia’s ‘Pocket Rocket’, Azizulhasni Awang, will return to the Izu Velodrome, the site of his Olympic silver medal in keirin at Tokyo 2020. He will be one of the favourites to win gold in his pet event while also competing in the sprint, although the 38-year-old veteran – who may well be making his last Asian Games outing – will face stiff competition from the hosts.

Pandelela Rinong Pamg
Pandelela Pamg is another Olympic medallist wearing the orange and black of Malaysia at Aichi-Nagoya, and another one returning to their Tokyo 2020 venue as diving will be held in the Japanese capital.
Now 33, the diver has struggled for form in recent years – including finishing eighth and 12th in her events at Tokyo 2020 then missing out on selection for Paris 2024 – and will be looking for a podium finish, especially considering the strength of the Chinese diving team, in her platform events.
