The 2026 edition of these events was held under the theme “Engineering Africa’s inclusive, innovative, and sustainable future”, focusing on the role of engineering in addressing Africa’s development challenges and supporting inclusive and sustainable growth. Discussions covered engineering education and skills development, innovation and emerging technologies, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, gender equality and youth participation in engineering.
Together for engineering
Various stakeholders collaborated with UNESCO to bring these events to life. Jointly organized by the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET) and the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO), with support from UNESCO and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the events provided a platform for policy dialogue, technical exchange, professional development, networking and the sharing of engineering solutions and good practices.
They were officially launched by the Second Vice-President of Zanzibar, Hon. Hemed Salum Abdulla. High-level participants included Hon. Prof. Paul Mavima, Minister for National Housing and Social Amenities of Zimbabwe, and Eng. Mwajuma Waziri, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water of Tanzania, together with senior government officials, engineering leaders, academics and experts from participating countries.
