George Weasley is back in business, but this time there are no mischievous pranks, spells or wizardry. For ‘Harry Potter‘ actor Oliver Phelps, the magic now lies in a sport he dearly loves: rugby sevens.
Phelps, who starred in the iconic eight-part Harry Potter series, has been a life-long rugby sevens fan.
Recently, he took his passion for the Olympic sport to another level, becoming part-owner of Atlantic Novas team in the newly-launched Ultimate Sevens Championship, which features the world’s leading sevens players and Olympic medallists.
“I’ve always been a big fan of rugby,” Phelps told Olympics.com in an interview.
“Rugby sevens is the quickest form of the game that you will ever see, and that’s why it fits so well with the Olympics as well.
“It’s great because you’re showing a high competitiveness, intensity, but also amazing skill set as well,” he added.
The 40-year-old English actor’s team includes Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Sesenieli Donu and Jeremaia Matana, a Paris 2024 silver medallist, both of Fiji, in the men’s squad, as well as Paris 2024 bronze medallist Alev Kelter of Team USA on the women’s side.
“When the opportunity came to be involved in Ultimate sevens and especially the Atlantic Novas, I was all on board for that,” Phelps added.
