Egypt will face Australia in the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 32 in Dallas, Texas, on Friday (3 July).
Australia’s young team started the tournament by beating a stunned Türkiye 2-0, before battling their way through a draw with Paraguay to secure progression into the last 32. They finished in second place behind co-hosts, the United States, in Group D.
Egypt secured second place in Group G after their first win at a World Cup was bookended by two draws in the group phase.
Despite fitness concerns surrounding talisman Mohamed Salah, this is the first time Egypt have progressed past the group stage of the World Cup.
Australia have never won a knockout match in the competition, falling to Italy in 2006 and eventual winners Argentina in 2022.
The winner between Australia and Egypt will face Argentina or Cabo Verde in the round of 16.
