Coleman Wong pulled one back for the Rafa Nadal Academy.
After fellow academy alumni Alexandra Eala came up short in the 2026 Asian Games women’s singles semi-finals, Wong of Hong Kong, China delivered in the men’s on Saturday (3 October), convincingly beating Wu Yibing of the People’s Republic of China 6-2, 6-4 to strike gold – and secure a tennis quota for the LA28 Olympic Games.
Coleman, 22, won his first major international title. Currently ranked 100th in the world, his place in LA will be confirmed as long as he maintains a top 500 ranking.
“It’s going to be my first Olympics,” Coleman said. “It’s going to be amazing and I’m going to be so excited. It’s going to be in two years, right? So yeah, I will in the meantime just try to be as ready as possible and see what I can do there.
“There’s still quite a long time I’ll just try to keep improving myself and see how far I can go.
“I mean who’s not a fan of the Olympics? To be able to be a part of it, it’s even more meaningful.”
*As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective teams at the Olympic Games, athletes’ participation at the LA Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at LA28.
