Demi Vollering’s first outing in her rainbow jersey has given her the wardrobe headache to dream of, as she defended her UEC Road European Championship title in Sencur, Slovenia, on Saturday (3 October).
One week after becoming world champion for the first time, the Dutchwoman raced to her second consecutive continental jersey.
“It is really a golden year,” she told the media after the 130-kilometre race. “It is sad it is already over. Only the TT, and then it is off season already. But I cannot wait to race next year all year in this jersey and hopefully have a good season again.”
With only the European time trials on Wednesday (7 October) remaining, Vollering is already looking ahead to next season. But while the 29-year-old’s success is built on winning, she says the daily pursuit of improvement is what she enjoys most about her career.
“I just really love winning. It never gets boring for me,” she said.
“I think also it is not only the winning for me, but just improving yourself and getting better every day. Working on yourself every day and seeing what is still possible for the future. I think that is what I love most about this job.”
