In Sudan, where conflict and displacement have profoundly affected communities, safeguarding this living heritage is essential to preserving cultural identity, maintaining connections between generations and supporting recovery.
To advance these efforts, the UNESCO Sudan Office, in collaboration with the Sudanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture and the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of Khartoum State, organised a capacity-building workshop on safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, with particular attention to the living traditions of displaced communities.
Held on 12 October 2026 at the UNDP Hall in Khartoum, the workshop brought together 25 cultural heritage stakeholders from the seven localities of Khartoum State to strengthen their capacities to identify, document and safeguard traditions affected by the conflict.
