Along a canal in Bangkok, bright blue homes now stand as a marker of change. It is hard to imagine that only years ago, many families here lived in informal settlements vulnerable to flooding, insecure land tenure, and inadequate sanitation.
Today, the Mit Pracha Housing Community tells a different story. Developed through Thailand’s Baan Mankong (“Secure Housing”) program with support from the Community Organizations Development Institute, the neighborhood demonstrates how secure housing, community ownership, affordable financing, and supportive public policy can transform lives.
For a delegation of parliamentarians from Europe and Asia visiting Thailand ahead of the 2026 World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings, Mit Pracha offered something equally important: perspective.
