A hard fought 2-1 win against Bafana Bafana takes Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions to the quarter-finals at AFCON 2025

Cameroon edged South Africa 2-1 in the last 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations men’s football tournament to set up a quarter-final clash with host nation Morocco.

South Africa dominated the early exchanges in Rabat and should have been ahead after 4 minutes when forward Lyle Foster headed wide from close range.

Cameroon weathered the early storm, and took the lead, with Junior Tchamadeu on hand to place a pin ball into the net 10 minutes before the interval.

The Indomitable Lions further tightened their grip on the game when teenage forward Christian Kofane met Nagida’s cross with a textbook header a minute after the break. The five-time AFCON winners held on well enough until South Africa’s Evidence Makgopa side-footed his effort into Cameroon’s net with two minutes remaining in the game.

Cameroon held on to win 2-1 despite waves of South African attempts, to book their quarter-final spot.
