Six-time Alpine skiing World Cup overall champion Mikaela Shiffrin enters 2026/27 with a new focus. It is not slalom.
After winning her third Olympic gold in the women’s slalom at the Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 and tying Annemarie Moser-Pröll’s all-time women’s record with six overall crystal globes, Shiffrin identified the events she wants to push further.
“I have a lot of curiosity about how I can continue to improve in GS and super-G,” she told Ski Racing in a post-season interview. “It started to click at the end of the season.”
On her signature event, where she owns nine slalom Crystal Globes, she was more than clear.
“I think I’ve reached my ceiling in how fast I can ski slalom,” she said.
The provisional FIS 2026/27 women’s World Cup calendar, pending final council approval, sets the stage for those ambitions.
The schedule comprises 40 races across 20 venues, with 12 giant slaloms, 10 slaloms and nine super-Gs and nine downhills.
Killington opens the North American block Nov. 28-29, offering women’s giant slalom and slalom.
Beyond Killington, the season takes shape around two major competitions: the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana, Switzerland (Feb. 1-14), and the Sun Valley World Cup Finals, March 20-25, 2027, in Idaho for the second consecutive year.
A seventh overall title would give the American the women’s record outright.
“What I know is that I’m not ready to be done yet,” she said.
