Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru won the men’s individual bronze medal in compound archery at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday as India concluded their campaign in the category with three gold medals and a bronze.
Ganesh shot 149 out of a possible 150 in the bronze-medal match to prevail 149-144 at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square in Aichi.
Earlier, Ganesh beat 2019 World Championships mixed team bronze medallist Chen Chieh-Lun of Chinese Taipei 148-138 in the quarter-finals before losing 148-144 to the Republic of Korea’s Kim Jongho in the semi-finals.
The bronze was Ganesh’s second medal at Aichi-Nagoya after he combined with Sahil Jadhav and Kushal Dalal to win the men’s compound team gold on Wednesday.
Earlier on Thursday, Chikitha Taniparthi missed out on a third medal at the Games after losing 144-143 to Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Ashrifah in the women’s compound individual archery quarter-finals.
Chikitha, who topped the qualification round with 705 points, had beaten Bhutan’s Dorji Dolma 149-140 in the round of 32 before edging Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yi-Hsuan in a shoot-off after their round-of-16 contest finished 148-148.
Defending champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam, meanwhile, had qualified 13th with 699 points. She won her opening elimination match 148-145 before losing 150-146 to South Korea’s 14-year-old Kang Yeonseo, who shot a perfect 150, in the round of 16.
Prithika Pradeep finished 20th in qualification with 695 but did not progress to the individual eliminations, with only two archers from each country advancing.
In the men’s qualification, Sahil was the best-placed Indian in fifth with 709 points, followed by Ganesh in 14th and Kushal in 16th, with the latter two scoring 704 each. Kushal, as the third-ranked Indian, did not advance to the individual knockouts.
Sahil reached the round of 16, where he lost 149-148 to Ganesh in an all-Indian contest.
India had swept all three compound team gold medals on Wednesday. Jyothi, Chikitha and Prithika won the women’s team title, while Chikitha and Sahil took mixed team gold and helped India obtain a quota for the compound mixed team event at the LA 2028 Olympics.
Sahil, Ganesh and Kushal then won the men’s team title to complete the sweep.
India had won all five compound gold medals at Hangzhou 2023 but finished Aichi-Nagoya 2026 with three golds and one bronze.
India’s archery campaign, however, continues with the recurve team, mixed team and individual medal events still to come.
