India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam produced a one-sided display to beat Aaron Cullen of Scotland and set up a pre-quarterfinal meeting with Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman in the men’s 55kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Friday.
Jadumani Singh was up against a home favourite in Cullen at the SEC, with a partisan Glasgow crowd behind the Scottish pugilist from the opening bell.
The 22-year-old Indian boxer, however, paid little heed to the noise and took the first round with a perfect 10 from every judge and repeated the trick in the second en route to securing a 5-0 unanimous decision win.
Pakistani boxer Sumama Rehman, who received a bye in the preliminaries, awaits Jadumani on Sunday evening, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.
Jadumani Singh, who won a silver medal in the 50kg division at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Noida last year and moved up to the 55kg this year, was the first Indian boxer to take the ring at Glasgow 2026.
India have named a 14-member boxing contingent for the ongoing Commonwealth Games, comprising seven men and as many women.
Lovlina Borgohain has already assured India of a boxing medal in Glasgow after she was handed a bye in the quarter-finals.
Both losing semi-finalists in Commonwealth Games boxing are awarded bronze medals and consequently a top-four appearance guarantees a podium finish.
India’s Sachin Siwach will be in action in the round of 32 of the men’s 60kg division against Canada’s Al-Ahmadieh Keoma on Saturday.
