Country-led partnerships and compacts establish priorities, commitments, and measurable targets for reforms, infrastructure, skills, investment, and local economic benefits.
BANGKOK, October 16, 2026—Eight governments announced country partnerships and compacts to advance responsible metals and minerals development, create jobs, and strengthen local economies.
Argentina, Bolivia, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Mauritania, and Zambia set out priorities, commitments, and measurable targets to guide reforms, increase investment, and deliver lasting benefits for communities.
The plans identify actions each country can take to advance its metals and minerals sector, including modernizing mineral licensing and geological data, strengthening environmental and social oversight, expanding energy and transport infrastructure, and developing local workers and suppliers.
- Metals and minerals make modern life possible. The World Bank Group is working with countries to ensure the mineral sector also generates positive development impact for host countries and local communities. These plans put measurable outcomes behind national ambitions. Success will be judged by whether mineral development creates jobs, strengthens local economies, and expands opportunity—while protecting people and the environment.
