Every October 5, World Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to recognize the fundamental role of teachers and to reflect on the conditions needed to strengthen the teaching profession. In 2026, the commemoration takes on special significance as it marks 60 years since the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which recognizes, among other aspects, the importance of initial teacher education and professional development.
Strengthening the teaching profession also begins by supporting those who are preparing to enter it today. With this in mind, in September, Moquegua hosted the 1st Macroregional Meeting on Research and Innovation Experiences of Teacher Educators and Student Teachers in Initial Teacher Education, organized by the “Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera” Public Higher Pedagogical Education School.
The meeting brought together student teachers and teacher educators from Arequipa, Tacna, Puno, Cusco, and Moquegua, creating a space to share experiences, raise new questions, and strengthen research connected to the real challenges facing education.
As part of this space, the Reimagina Program also presented the main results achieved during 2025 in participating educational institutions at the early childhood, primary, and secondary levels. The presentation made it possible to share progress and highlight the importance of generating and using evidence to identify challenges and guide decisions aimed at improving education.
Researching to understand better the classroom
As part of its contribution to the Reimagina Program, UNESCO Peru promoted the participation of Dany Marisol Briceño Vela, General Director of the Monterrico Public Higher Pedagogical Education School, who delivered the presentation “Development and Validation of Instruments in Quantitative and Qualitative Research.”
