Tokyo 2020 Olympic road cycling bronze medallist Tadej Pogačar will hold the red jersey at La Vuelta a España 2026 for another day after stage 3 was cancelled Monday (24 August).
Hail and extreme weather hit the peloton on the approach to Font-Romeu in France, the first summit finish of this year’s race, sending riders off the road in search of shelter.
“With safety the main concern, the decision was made to cancel stage 3,” organisers said in a statement.
No stage result was recorded.
The general classification stands as it did after Sunday’s finish in Manosque. Pogačar leads by nine seconds from two-time Olympic medallist Wout van Aert, with Matthew Brennan 10 seconds back.
The race resumes on Tuesday (25 August) with a 104.8km route around Andorra la Vella.
La Vuelta is the only Grand Tour Pogačar has yet to win.
