India will host the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027, scheduled to be played from February 14 to 28 in Mumbai and Vadodara, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday.
The Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will host all matches in the inaugural edition of the women’s cricket tournament.
The Women’s Champions Trophy will be played in the T20 format and will feature six teams – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
All six teams qualified based on their positions in the T20I team rankings at the July 6, 2026 cut-off.
Australia were world No. 1 at the cut-off, followed by England in second, India in third, New Zealand in fourth, South Africa in fifth and Sri Lanka in sixth.
Unlike the men’s Champions Trophy, which features a group stage followed by semi-finals and a final, the inaugural women’s competition will feature a single round-robin league.
Each of the six cricket teams will play the other five once, with the top two sides in the standings advancing directly to the final on February 28. There will be no semi-finals.
The Indian women’s cricket team will enter the competition as the reigning ODI world champions, having won their maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title on home soil last year.
Australia, meanwhile, are the reigning Women’s T20 World Cup champions after beating England in the final at Lord’s in July.
The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy was originally scheduled to be staged in Sri Lanka but was moved to India as Sri Lanka Cricket continues to undertake reforms outlined at the ICC Annual Conference in July.
Bangladesh, India and South Africa were assessed as potential replacement hosts before the ICC recommended India. The decision was subsequently ratified by the ICC Board.
The full schedule and ticketing details for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy will be announced at a later date.
