After winning a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games last month, Indian javelin throw ace Neeraj Chopra will look to take the top spot at the Lausanne Diamond League 2026 at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Switzerland on Friday.
The Lausanne Diamond League events, including Neeraj Chopra’s men’s javelin throw competition, will be available to watch on live streaming in India.
The upcoming athletics meet, also known as Athletissima, will mark Neeraj Chopra’s fourth appearance in Lausanne.
The 28-year-old Indian athlete won the Diamond League event in 2022 with a throw of 89.08m and in 2023 with a 87.66m effort before finishing runner-up in 2024 after hurling the spear 89.49m.
The Lausanne Diamond League will also be Neeraj Chopra’s third competitive outing of the 2026 athletics season.
He returned to competition at the Doha Diamond League in June following a lengthy injury layoff, finishing fourth with a throw of 85.69m, before winning silver at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with a best effort of 85.83m.
The Lausanne Diamond League will also offer the two-time Olympic medallist an opportunity to return to winning ways.
Neeraj Chopra, whose national record throw of 90.23m was set at the Doha Diamond League last year, has not won an international competition since the NC Classic in July last year.
The Lausanne meet is also important in Neeraj Chopra’s bid to climb the season-ending Diamond League Finals standings.
The top six athletes in javelin qualify for the Diamond League Final, with additional spots available through a national or global wildcard. Neeraj Chopra is currently seventh with five points.
He will be up against reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, and Olympic medallists Anderson Peters of Grenada and Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, who pipped Neeraj Chopra to the Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow, will also be in the field. Pathirage is the current world leader, having produced a massive 92.62m throw at the Rome Diamond League.
Reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has opted to skip the Lausanne Diamond League in his bid to regain form ahead of next month’s Asian Games in Japan.
