Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has revealed how Indian cricket team legend Virat Kohli helped her navigate one of the most challenging periods of her badminton career.
In an emotional post on social media, PV Sindhu shared how a conversation with former India captain Virat Kohli helped her overcome a prolonged dip in form and a series of injury setbacks.
“One thing I’ll always be grateful for, though, is Virat bhai. I reached out to him at one of the lowest points of my career,” PV Sindhu wrote. “Injuries were piling up, the results weren’t coming, and I just needed someone who understood. He replied within minutes, and we met the very next day.
“What we spoke about will always stay between us. But I’ll always be grateful that when I needed someone, he was there.
“He didn’t say much, but every word stayed with Datta (Venkata Sai, husband) and me. Some conversations change the way you see things. That was one of them,” Sindhu reflected.
Although she chose to keep the contents of their discussion private, the Indian badminton ace has credited Kohli’s guidance with helping her regain perspective and rediscovering the joy of playing the sport.
PV Sindhu returned to form in emphatic fashion last week by winning the women’s singles title at the Japan Open to become the first Indian to win the tournament in its 43-year-long history. It was also her maiden BWF Super 750 title.
The victory in Japan ended a 19-month wait for a title after winning the Syed Modi International in December 2024. It was also her first title outside India since the 2022 Singapore Open.
The 31-year-old Indian badminton player is currently in Changzhou, where she will look to build on her renewed momentum at the China Open BWF Super 1000 tournament.
