I. You will take the ecological crisis seriously. It is not just one problem among many; it is the most important political, economic, social, and moral issue of the 21st century. A matter of life and death. Our common home is on fire. There is no time to lose. Do you have other concerns? You are rightly concerned about the price of gasoline and gas, and you are wrongly concerned about the large number of Arab, Black, Roma, Jewish, Mexican, or gay people in your country. You must change your concerns. The climate crisis is more serious. Much more serious? Infinitely more serious. It is about your survival and/or the survival of your sons, daughters, grandsons, and granddaughters.
II. You shall not worship the idols of the capitalist religion: Market economy , Fossil fuels , GDP growth , World Trade Organization , International Monetary Fund , competitiveness , debt repayment , etc. They are false gods, eager for human sacrifices, and responsible for global warming.
III . You will act every day in accordance with ecological principles. You will refuse to travel by plane for distances that can be covered by train. You will drastically reduce your meat consumption. You will avoid the pitfalls of consumerism. Aware of the interdependence of all living beings, you will act with prudence and respect toward nature. But you will reject the illusions of ” hummingbirdism” : the belief that ecological change will be the result of the sum of small individual actions.
IV. You will support collective action: for example, any specific environmental struggle, in your country and around the world. Depending on the situation, you will choose street demonstrations, acts of civil disobedience, ZADs (zones of resistance to development), or the sabotage of oil pipelines. You will participate in or support movements, NGOs, etc., that fight for environmental causes, giving priority to the most radical ones.
V. You will never pit social issues against environmental ones. You will strive, by all means, to foster convergence between social and environmental struggles. You will work to guarantee alternative employment for the workers of polluting companies that must close. You will try to bring unions and environmental movements closer together.
VI. You will offer your solidarity, both activist and/or financial, to climate refugees and victims of ecological disasters. You will demand that your country’s borders be opened to them and that wealthy countries in the Global North compensate poor countries in the Global South for the damage caused by climate change.
VII. You will fight relentlessly against ecocidal politicians and/or climate change deniers, such as Trump, Bolsonaro, Scott Morrison, and company. All means are valid to remove them, overthrow them, and neutralize them.
VIII. You will refuse to support those who invoke the name of ecology in vain. That is, politicians who give fine speeches but do not act against emissions and fossil fuels. Or who propose false solutions such as emissions trading , offsetting mechanisms , and other mystifications of green capitalism and greenwashing .
IX. You will fight, by all means, against the companies of the fossil fuel oligarchy, that is, the enormous economic-financial-political-military complex linked to fossil fuels: oil, coal, and gas. You will fight for their expropriation and for the creation of a public energy service, resolutely oriented towards renewable energies (solar, wind, hydroelectric, etc.) and capable of providing free services to the working classes.
X. Knowing that the problem is systemic and that, therefore, it will not be possible to find a real solution within the framework of capitalism, you will participate, in one way or another, in the parties or movements that propose anti-capitalist alternatives: ecosocialism, social ecology, degrowth, etc.
