UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office, with support from the Republic of Korea and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, conducted a capacity-building training workshop to 52 teachers specialized in teaching ICT, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry teachers from 13 schools in Dodoma City Council, Chamwino, and Kongwa Districts.
The training, held in Dodoma at the Edema Conference Centre Limited from 19 to 22 May 2026, aimed at strengthening the integration of ICT into teaching and learning. It focused on the implementation of the 2025 ICT Competency Standards for Teachers in Tanzania (ICT-CSTT) through15 ICT modules in the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) Teachers’ Continuous Professional Development (TCPD) Learning Management System.
The training was officiated by Dr. Lyabwene Mtahabwa, Commissioner for Education from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on behalf of the Permanent Secretary for the ministry. In his opening remarks, Dr. Mtahabwa expressed the essence and importance of training using the modules.
These modules will provide teachers with practical skills to effectively integrate technology into pedagogy, enhance classroom engagement, improve learning outcomes and promote innovation in education delivery

Dr. Mtahabwa expressed appreciation to UNESCO, and to the Republic of Korea for their continued partnership and commitment to supporting the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania in strengthening the quality of education through digital transformation.
The training was facilitated by key project partners including the Open University of Tanzania (Dr. Eldefonce Nfuka), University of Dodoma (Dr. Lucian Ngeze), Marangu Teachers College (Regis Kihara Msoffe) and Jonas Meyan from Monduli Teachers College and Tanzania Institute of Education (Mr. Manyama Charles).
The participants appreciated and highlighted the value of the training as being high.
The training helped me gain practical ICT skills for teaching and learning. I learned how to use OOBS to record lesson videos, Kahoot to create interactive quizzes, and Padlet to support collaborative learning activities. These tools have increased my confidence in integrating technology into classroom teaching. This will help make lessons more engaging and interesting for students compared to the traditional teaching methods. I sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making this training possible for teachers.
On the other hand, Ms. Jacquline Theogenes Julius, from Dodoma Secondary School highlighted that, the ICT course increased her understanding on how to use ICT effectively in teaching and learning at school afer interacting with different lessons such as understanding education policies, using digital teaching tools, conducting assessment through ICT including Google form.
I have learned how to search for information on the internet and how to use Open Educational Resources (OER) correctly in teaching and learning. When searching online, it is important to use trusted sources, check if the information is correct and up to date, and make sure the content matches the lesson or syllabus. It is critical to also consider copyright rules and whether the resource is suitable for students’ levels. Overall, I will use the knowledge from this course in school to improve lesson delivery, increase student engagement, simplify lesson preparation, and use technology to enhance students’ learning outcomes

Additionally, Mr. Mathias Mvula, the Assistant Director for Teacher Training from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology noted during the closing session that, the Government has undertaken major education reforms, including the improvement of the 2014 Education and Training Policy into the 2023 version. As a result, the curriculum has been revised, with every subject emphasizing the integration and use of ICT in teaching and learning. He therefore emphasized that teachers can no longer avoid the use of ICT in achieving learning outcomes.
He urged teachers to effectively apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to enhance teaching and learning, and to further support capacity building by sharing the knowledge with fellow teachers in their respective schools.
