UNESCO, in partnership with the Republic of Korea and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, has successfully concluded two capacity-building workshops aimed at strengthening the quality and relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Tanzania. Conducted under the Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR II) Project, the workshops brought together 60 academic staff, institutional leaders and technical personnel from the Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Zanzibar and the Morogoro Vocational Teachers Training College (MVTTC) in Morogoro.
Held from 29 June to 3 July 2026 in Zanzibar and 20 to 24 July 2026 in Morogoro, the workshops focused on strengthening institutional capacity for the implementation of competence-based curricula while equipping educators with practical approaches to digital learning, authentic assessment, quality assurance and industry engagement. The initiative forms part of UNESCO’s continued support to Tanzania in modernizing TVET and preparing young people with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly digital and rapidly evolving labour market.
Throughout the five-day workshops, participants engaged in practical and collaborative learning experiences designed to bridge policy and classroom practice. Through curriculum design clinics, simulations, practical demonstrations and peer learning, they explored innovative approaches to competence-based education and training, the integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence into teaching and learning, authentic assessment, work-based learning and institutional quality assurance. Working directly on their own curricula and institutional systems enabled participants to develop practical solutions that can be immediately applied within their respective institutions.
