On July 1, 2026, the World Bank Group refreshed its World Development Indicators (WDI) database. This quarterly update brings the latest figures for national accounts and population, along with revisions spanning poverty, health, gender, migration, governance, and the economy.
The database now features the FY27 country income classification.
People: poverty, population, and health
Poverty estimates have been extended through 2024, including headcount ratios and poverty gaps for upper-middle, lower-middle, and low-income country groups. Population indicators have been updated through 2025, with detailed splits by age, sex, and urban-rural locations. On the health side, tobacco use data covers prevalence by sex for 2024, offering fresh evidence for public health monitoring. There’s also an update of forced displacement indicators, tracking refugees, asylum-seekers, and internally displaced persons by country of asylum and origin, which helps paint a fuller picture of global displacement.
Gender data has also been updated: indicators on unpaid domestic and care work by sex, women’s decision-making in reproductive health, and the share of family planning demand met by modern methods all aim to sharpen the picture of gender roles and access to services.
Prosperity: economic and financial data
This update features national accounts statistics for 2025: GDP and its components, expenditure aggregates, sectoral value added, and income measures.
Financial and macroeconomic indicators have also been updated using the latest IMF data, strengthening coverage of credit conditions and financial inclusion.
PPP conversion factors for GDP and private consumption using the latest deflator and CPI data have also been refreshed.
Other updates encompass foreign investment flows, remittances, and enterprise survey data (e.g. questions on licensing times and power outages affecting firms), and entrepreneurship indicators including business density and new firm registrations.
The Country Policy and Institutional Assessment (CPIA) scores for 2025 are now available. The CPIA ratings provide insight into countries’ policy and institutional performance in economic management, structural policies, public sector management, and social inclusion.
Planet: fisheries indicators
On the environmental side, fisheries production data has been refreshed using the latest FAO figures.
