This announcement was made during a high-level meeting between H.E. Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zein Hajar, Federal Minister of Education, and the UNESCO Sudan delegation led by Mr. Ahmed Junaid Sorosh-Wali, Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan, accompanied by Dr. Aiman Badri, Head of the Education Unit, and in the presence of the Sudan National Commission for Education, Culture and Sciences.
The Minister highlighted the critical role of UNESCO as a key partner in the implementation of Sudan’s Transitional Education Plan (TEP 2025–2027), particularly in advancing system recovery and strengthening resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
The Minister also commended UNESCO’s continued technical and operational support, including capacity-building for educators in e-learning and education in emergencies, as well as the provision of modern learning equipment to enhance the educational environment.
“Our partnership with UNESCO has been instrumental in sustaining the education sector during this critical period. Declaring 2026 as the Year of TVET reflects our commitment to equipping Sudanese youth with practical skills and expanding opportunities for recovery and development,”H.E. Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zein Hajar.
Discussions also focused on expanding cooperation to support the stability and continuity of education, with particular emphasis on strengthening technical education pathways and improving learning outcomes.
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Junaid Sorosh-Wali reaffirmed UNESCO’s unwavering commitment to supporting Sudan’s education sector, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration.
“UNESCO remains fully committed to working alongside the Ministry of Education and all education partners to ensure continuity of learning and to strengthen the resilience of the education system. The successful completion of the secondary school certificate examinations under such challenging circumstances is an important achievement and a testament to the dedication of Sudan’s education community,” he stated.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and implement targeted programmes that support education recovery, with a particular focus on advancing TVET as a key driver of skills development and socio-economic resilience and livelihood in Sudan.
Funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), UNESCO handed over to the Ministry Education Management and Information System (EMIS) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) hardware along with remote training and conferencing equipment.
