To provide concrete responses to these challenges, the updated Monograph on Occupations Accessible to Persons with Disabilities by Type of Disability was officially presented in Yaoundé on 8 July 2026 by the Minister of Social Affairs, with UNESCO’s support through the Disability project funded by the Global Disability Fund, formerly UNPPRPD.
A practical career guidance and decision making tool, this publication aims to strengthen the social and professional inclusion of persons with disabilities by identifying occupations compatible with different forms of disability, as well as the conditions conducive to their practice. It also serves as a reference tool for public authorities, businesses, training institutions and organisations committed to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.
The updated monograph is the result of technical work conducted under the coordination of the Ministry of Social Affairs, with support from the United Nations system and its partners. It comprises 163 pages structured around an introduction, four chapters, a conclusion, annexes and a bibliography.
In particular, the publication identifies 96 occupations accessible to persons with intellectual disabilities, 188 occupations accessible to persons with visual disabilities, 417 occupations accessible to persons with physical disabilities, and 217 occupations accessible to persons with hearing disabilities or speech disorders.
Presiding over the official presentation ceremony, Mme Pauline Irène Nguene, Minister of Social Affairs, emphasised that inclusion cannot be reduced solely to the issue of access to essential services.
Environment, whether physical, social, professional or digital, must not be a factor of exclusion. Instead, it must become a driver of participation, a pillar of autonomy and a means of fulfilment for all.

She also commended the commitment of the technical and financial partners, particularly UNESCO, whose contribution, alongside that of other United Nations system agencies, made it possible to bring this landmark initiative supporting the social and professional inclusion of persons with disabilities in Cameroon to fruition.
Speaking on behalf of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cameroon, Mr Imteyaz Khodabux reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the Government’s efforts to build a more inclusive society in which the skills, talents and potential of persons with disabilities are fully recognised and valued.
By providing public decision makers, employers, training institutions and civil society organisations with an updated tool adapted to the current realities of the labour market, this monograph opens up new prospects for strengthening the participation of persons with disabilities in Cameroon’s economic and social life.
